The name Chatelier is a tribute to the historical roots of Cognac. In 1166, one of the oldest Cistercian monasteries was founded on the Île de Ré, in the heart of the wine-growing region: l'Abbaye des Chateliers. There, monks developed the early art of wine distillation, which later formed the basis for the Cognac tradition. Claude Chatelier Cognac, founded by Alexandre Gabriel in 1989, is also part of this venerable tradition. Production takes place in small copper stills with a capacity of 25 hectoliters, using traditional in-house methods.
