Der Firmengründer Don Andrés Brugal Montaner verließ einst seine Heimat Spanien mit dem Ziel, in der Karibik sein Glück zu finden. Nachdem er in Kuba das Handwerk der Rumherstellung erlernt hatte, führte ihn sein Weg um 1855 in die Dominikanische Republik, genauer nach Puerto Plata. Nach einigen Jahren intensiver Arbeit und Erfahrung entwickelte Don Andrés dort ein eigenes Herstellungsverfahren, das bis heute für die gleichbleibend hohe Qualität der Brugal-Rums verantwortlich ist. Dieses Verfahren bleibt ein streng gehütetes Familiengeheimnis, das über Generationen hinweg weitergegeben wird.
Der Brugal Extra Viejo Ron, ein herausragender Premium-Rum, reift nach seiner Destillation bis zu acht Jahre in sorgfältig ausgewählten amerikanischen Eichenfässern. Durch diese lange Lagerung erhält er seinen komplexen, vollmundigen Geschmack, der Kenner auf der ganzen Welt begeistert.
