In the late 1990s, a group of friends had the ambitious plan to establish the first whisky distillery in Wales for over a century. Their aim was to create a whisky as pure and precious as Welsh gold. In 2004, on St. David's Day, this dream became a reality when Penderyn Whisky saw the light of day. The distillery owes its uniqueness in part to the copper still with a special still designed by Dr. David Faraday. It is located in the village of Penderyn, at the southern end of the Brecon Beacons. The pure spring water from the region contributes significantly to the quality of the exceptional Penderyn whiskies.
Penderyn Patagonia, the 11th whisky in the Icons of Wales Edition, is the first blended malt whisky from Penderyn. It is created by blending the Penderyn single malt with whisky from La Alazana Distillery in Patagonia and is bottled at 43% vol.
Inspired by the historic voyage of 153 Welsh people who sailed to Patagonia in 1865 to preserve their language and culture, this whisky pays tribute to the heritage of the Welsh colony in South America. Today there are around 50,000 descendants there and a vibrant Welsh culture.
