Unofficially, the Ardbeg distillery has been distilling since 1794 - in 1815, the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg.
"Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic and translates as "small hill".
The distillery is located on the south coast of the Islay whisky region.

Weisshaus in Tirol has had access to rare rarities from the Ardbeg Distillery since 2017. Mr. Osler selected two special casks on site from Ardbeg's private stocks.

Ardbeg Vintage Y2K is an outstanding example of the fine art of whisky making. This 23 year old whisky offers an unparalleled taste experience with intensely sweet and classically peated notes that pay tribute to Ardbeg's rich heritage. Matured in selected bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, the result is a unique single malt that perfectly embodies the Ardbeg tradition.

This limited first edition is particularly significant: In February 2000, dedicated fans founded the Ardbeg Committee to preserve the distillery. When the casks of this bottling arrived in the warehouse, this dream became a reality. Ardbeg Vintage Y2K, presented in a special edition, is a real gem for lovers of smoky malt whiskies.

Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg Master Distiller, describes Ardbeg 23 Years Old Vintage Y2K as an exceptional memento of a pivotal year for Ardbeg - a whisky that was created at the beginning of a new era at the long-established distillery and has been carefully matured ever since.
