Die Fuji Gotemba Destillerie, die im November 1973 ihre Produktion aufnahm, wurde als Joint Venture zwischen Kirin, Seagram und Chivas Brothers gegründet. Während in der Destillerie sowohl Malz- als auch Getreidewhisky hergestellt wird, erfolgen alle Schritte der Whiskyproduktion – von der Gärung bis zur Abfüllung – vor Ort. Nachdem Kirin im Jahr 2002 nach der Auflösung von Seagram die vollständige Kontrolle übernahm und die Brennerei in Kirin Distillery umbenannte, begannen sie, sich stärker auf ihre Verbindung zum Mount Fuji zu konzentrieren, was 2004 zur Einführung ihres ersten Single Malts führte.
Der Kirin Fuji Whiskey zeichnet sich als hochwertiger Grain Whiskey durch eine bemerkenswerte Vielfalt an Aromen und eine interessante geschmackliche Entwicklung aus. Er bietet ein ausgewogenes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und hat bei Konsumenten, die nach einem erschwinglichen japanischen Whisky suchen, positive Resonanz erhalten.
Gemäß den im Februar 2021 von der Japan Spirits and Liqueur Makers Association festgelegten Richtlinien erfüllt dieser Whisky die Voraussetzungen, um als echter japanischer Whisky zu gelten. Das bedeutet, dass der gesamte Herstellungsprozess – von der Gärung über die Destillation bis hin zur Abfüllung – in Japan stattgefunden hat.
