The Baron de Ley winery was founded in 1985 by leading Rioja winegrowers in the historic Benedictine monastery of Imas in Mendavia, Spain. At the time, the winery was unique in the Denominación de Origen Protegida Rioja and was modeled on the renowned châteaux in Bordeaux, which significantly shaped the philosophy and style of the winery. Today, the famous Baron de Ley Rioja wines are produced on around 90 hectares of carefully cultivated vineyards.
Baron de Ley Rioja Gran Reserva is an exquisite cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, which thrives in the fertile soils of La Rioja. The vines grow on clay and sandy soils, which provide ideal conditions for the grapes to develop.
At optimum ripeness, the grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, ensuring a precise selection that avoids coarse and less selective machinery. After hand-picking, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery, where they are carefully sorted and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures.
After ageing, the wine is bottled and sealed with a natural cork, allowing the character and quality of the Gran Reserva to come into its own. (automated translation)
