The Rauchkofel Single Malt Whisky Sherry Cask Finished comes from the renowned Kuenz natural distillery in the heart of East Tyrol and embodies alpine craftsmanship at the highest level. Now in its 12th generation, the Kuenzhof is run by Florian and Johannes Kuenz - a family with a deep-rooted distilling tradition whose distillates have won numerous national and international awards.
This Austrian single malt whisky is distilled from the family's own barley and married with crystal-clear spring water from the St. Georgs spring. The double distillation is carried out with great care directly at the Kuenzhof, at the foot of the Lienz Dolomites. The whisky is first matured in virgin oak and first fill oak casks from Styria before being given its characterful finish in first fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. This elaborate cask maturation gives the Rauchkofel an intense, fruity depth, paired with spicy elegance and a pleasantly soft mouthfeel.
The whisky is named after the Rauchkofel, a striking mountain in East Tyrol with a legendary history. Although it was once thought to be a dormant volcano, the mountain has always remained peaceful - a highly symbolic name for a whisky with a lot of inner strength.
The Rauchkofel whisky is bottled by hand, in small batches, without chill-filtration and without the addition of colorants in order to bring out the natural aromas to the full. The current bottling, Batch X, is limited to 2,064 bottles and offers an authentic, regional pleasure experience with an Alpine character.
