The distillery A.H. Riise is located on St. Thomas Island, an American Virgin Island in the Caribbean. Before this island became an American territory, it was a Danish colony. Around the 1840s, the pharmacist Albert Heinrich was not only allowed to open a pharmacy but also to produce alcohol.
The A.H. Riise X.O. Reserve Port Cask Rum Limited Edition belongs to the best rums of the West Indies. Only rums that have been stored and matured in wooden barrels for at least 20 years are used. The Master Distiller of the house selects each barrel personally. Every single bottle is numbered, with the barrel number and the date of bottling.
Tasting notes:
Colour: Light gold.
Nose: Vanilla, notes of pineapple, bananas, dried red fruit, port.
Taste: Yellow and red fruits, tobacco, cedar wood.
Finish: Long lasting, harmonious, slightly dry chocolate.
Anfänglich war ich sehr begeistert. Kräftig süß und mit einer holzigen Note.
Aber nach ein paar Gläsern – immer noch süß, weniger Frucht und dominierender Portweingeschmack und Holz.
Mal zeitweilig ruhen lassen und dann erneut probieren.
